Modifications / Trying to fix a leak
« on: November 29, 2018, 11:01:10 PM »
I had fitted a regulator to my Air Arms S510 a while ago, and I knew I had a slow leak and put it down to me either nicking an o ring or getting a hair or something in the seal. So i set out to fix it a couple of weeks ago.
Well..... after replacing all the seals in and out of the reg, and multiple reg extractions I watched Robert Lane videos again, and his advice is that 99.99% of slow leaks from the breather hole are from deformities in the tube. So armed with that I took to inspecting the inner tube wall and it has multiple imperfections running in exactly the wrong place for me. I got one of those honing tools a while ago, and thought maybe I could polish it out, but after a minute of that, the cracks stand out even more now that it's semi polished.

So i'm asking those with engineering experience what they think, and if a can succeed with either honing or some form of polishing these cracks out enough to get a seal?

Here's a couple of photos, one clearer than the other, but one shows how deep they are. The hole you see is the breather hole drilled through the tank.

Hunting / Night out with my Russian bride
« on: November 23, 2018, 11:16:01 PM »
I got to go out on a farm tonight. First time here, and conditions couldn't have been better. No wind and warm. The farmer dropped me at the top of a small valley, and I walked back down. First off I went along a hill side, not seeing anything for a while, then spotted a hare moving away from me, so I headed in his direction, no lick he had gone, so I crept up to the top of a rise and spotted two more hares about 30 m below me. So my first shot was a kneeled, and I dropped it, very pleased with myself. The second one moved a bit, then sat on its hind legs looking,  big mistake, thwack and it fell.
So I moved off the hill and hit the road going along next to horse paddocks. I stuck to the shady tree side, but spotted a black rabbit in the field, so moved until there was a small shrub between us and moved toward it, got in position and nailed it by threading the shot through a couple of wire fences. Any way, I kept going, it got dark, and I ended up getting 8 rabbits and a bonus possum on the way home.
It was so good being able to walk around with the gun in hand and not have to worry about being seen. The farmer was happy, and said I'm welcome anytime. I'm home now, nice cold vodka, then off to bed.

For Sale, Wanted, Spotted / Wanted silencer adapter for 12 mm barrel

Hunting / Pigeon slaughter
« on: October 04, 2018, 06:20:00 PM »
Today I went into a roof void to kill a few pigeons!!!

It was disgusting, crap everywhere, stunk and pigeons everywhere, but no further than 25 m away. At first I took the P Rod up. I have three 8 shot mags, so I get comfortable and started shooting. 1 mag, 2 mags, 3 mags, had to reload, 3 more mags gone, reload again, shot one more mag then had to fill the gun, so while at the Ute I though might as well take the S510 in.

So started again with the s510 for a change.(10 shot mag) 1 mag, 2 mags, 3 mags, 4 mags, then swapped back to the P Rod and shot 4 more mags through that. The S510 was only half full. So at this stage, the place is lettered with bodies, but there's still pigeons trying to fly in. We decide to call it quits, and will come back tomorrow to pick up the bodies.

11 x 8 = 88
4 x 10 = 40
Plus stomped on a few.

Now I did miss a few, but a shot well over 100. I will be going back again. We blocked the entrance and the ones that couldn't get back in ended up sitting on the back tier of seats.  This is an old grand stand and I plan to go back at night and hopefully slaughter the ones that will sit here with the night vision.

I felt like Rambo walking out of a kill zone, with twitching bodies, even stopping to pop a cap into a struggling survivor.
Only one photo, but you get the idea.

Members Reviews / Lead free H&N pellets
« on: September 30, 2018, 09:11:14 PM »
I've had a chance to try some different pellets lately. Today I tried these new pellets through my marauder pistol. Target was set out to 20 m, and I was sitting with the gun rested on my knee, so reasonably steady. I shot a full 8 shot mag and got this great group.
The pellets are not pba but an alloy. They look and feel well made, and I haven't come across a damaged one yet.
They are way lighter than your typical .22 pellet at 9.57 grain, so a flatter trajectory.
They are more expensive, but I like them. I tried them through my bobcat and got the sonic crack on high power, but at low power, 9 foot pound, I'm thinking they might be really good on pest birds in buildings, with the flat trajectory at low power.

There's my two cents worth.

Hunting / Controlling Canadian geese

Does anyone have any experience controlling Canadian geese?
I have been asked, as they are flying into power lines and causing outages. So looking for professional solutions.
Keen to hear, thanks.

Not sure how many people know, but there is a world's championship happening in Poland at the moment. NZ only has one competitor this year, Rob Dyer. See link to official website.

Your Best Groups / S510 group 45m
« on: August 20, 2018, 04:28:54 PM »
Had a quick session while in a sheltered spot today. Put a target out to 45 m and was very pleasantly surprised at this little group from my S 510 and JSB Express .177. 3 shots. A couple other groups not as good, but would have hit a sparrow each time.

Hi guys, am selling a stock I made, I just don't use it. Would be good to see it used rather than just sit there. See my trade me listing. Made for HW98, and will fit HW95, maybe others, but not too sure. It could be adapted I'm sure.

Hunting / AA S510 carbine Bullpup
« on: July 06, 2018, 12:51:23 AM »
What a great combination. An s 510 in a bullpup stock. Accuracy and compact handling.
This was this gun's first time out on the job, and it was so good to use. I checked my zero before I went and was able to pick these pigeons off one by one as they sat on cable trays and pipe work. My total for the night was 25, but a couple decided to go die elsewhere.
Thanks to wingman for setting this gun up for me in this configuration. Some may even recognize the stock.

Modifications / Regulating AA S5xx guns
« on: June 02, 2018, 09:35:13 PM »
I know Mr Google can probably answer all of this, but wanted see if anyone here had put a reg into an AA S5xx or S4XX  range.
I'm planning to do this, and what I really want to know is the methods of adjustments to valve and hammer springs as opposed to fitting the reg. For example replacing springs with stiffer/softer springs, or cutting, or packing them to make stiffer. I don't have any access to lathes. Don't know where to buy springs.

So any advice welcome. First thread for a while too.

Thanks in advance.

General Airgun Discussion / Air arms S510 carbine
« on: May 05, 2018, 09:58:49 AM »
Does anyone have an s510 carbine, 12 ft/pd version with shrouded barrel?

Just curious as to how quiet they are without an added silencer?

There's some new pellets out from H&N. Probably not available yet, but has anyone seen/tried them by any chance?
