Modifications / PCP pistol build challenge.
« on: July 10, 2018, 08:16:06 PM »
With all the BS talk of needing a FAL to purchase a PCP pistols lately I figure lets get some winter workshop home builds and/or Crosman mods going to show just how pointless this BS import ban actually is..

Whos up for a project?  Maybe a little competition to keep it interesting?

Highest efficiency (shot count per cc)?
Largest cal?
Quietest report?
Highest total energy regardless of shot count or cal?
Lightest or most compact?
A combination of the above? Maybe a free for all?

Open to ideas and suggestions to kick of a fun group build and documentation of build thread.
Who of you tinkerers are keen? Mintie? Danny? Mike P? Brendon? Mike Dvlnme? Shiloh? Sam? Anyone else?

General Airgun Discussion / NEW H&N .30cal Barracuda pellets
« on: November 25, 2017, 02:50:42 PM »
A little late to the party but H&N  just introduced a new .30cal pellet.  The weight fits right between JSBs offerings and they have gone away from the more pointed dome of their std barracuda design.
Well worth testing..

Hunting / Matador R3s Busting pest birds
« on: June 09, 2017, 08:39:28 PM »
I have been doing loads of pesting in the last few months and have added several new toys to my collection.
The one I have been using most of late is an early Matador R3 gen 1 steel breech .25cal long and I have tuned it to 910fps for 90 shots on the reg.
It is VERY accurate and I have been favouring it over my .22 std R3 for the longer shots and windy days.

I fitted it with a Tac Vector Optics 6-25x 50 scope, a brand which I have really taken to of late as the German Schott glass and mechanics are hard to fault. I could go on for ages about the new TVO marksman range of scopes but for now I will tell you 6 of my PCPs now have one! Even since these pics were taken I have replaced my 4.5-18x56 Falcon Menace scope that has always been on my .22 matador with a TVO 4.5-18x50 that has quickly become my favorite scope.. Ill be getting another one for the .25cal matador to replace the 6-25x 50 as it has a better reticle/clarity and  I never use it past 12x anyway.

Within a week of owning the .25cal I had shot through 5 tins of Kings and found that with a 12X scope setting its holdovers almost match my .22 R3 with the Falcon 4.5-18x56 set on 18x. It made it very quick to get accustomed to the .25 ballistics and has had me pushing the .25 out much further than the .22cal.

A couple of nights ago I got the chance to smash my longest kill with a PCP (.22 R3 204 yards on a hare) and landed a kill shot at 242yards!
I had been shooting it at 230 yards on a gong and was quite surprised in the frequency I could land a shot at that range within 5 inches.
The same evening I saw 3 hares just past my gong ranged at 242 yards. Shooting off my outdoor table off a bipod I dropped this one with a heart lung shot.. a whopping 9ftlbs of retained energy still passed right through at that range.

I have also been visiting a "job" on some stock feed lots, and the matadors have been very successful on the grain thieves. theses pics are from different days..
The same farm has a very large pigeon problem that is next on the list.

For Sale, Wanted, Spotted / Dragon slayer .50cal
« on: November 20, 2016, 08:04:59 PM »
Up for grabs is a .50Cal fire breathing "Dragon Slayer" PCP Carbine.

I has had loads of custom work done to the valve, transfer port, hammer stroke and trigger and now shoots a 240gr hollow point to over 230ftlbs of muzzle energy..  just a slight improvement from its factory set limp wristed 135ish ftlbs with 182gr round ball..

It still shoots .495" roundball really well and much faster but this thing loves the hollow points in its current tune.
This Pcp is well capable of taking even the largest NZ game and is loads of fun to shoot cans with too..

It comes with the 240gr HP mould and a custom .498 sizing die for some very cheap shooting or you can pick up boxes of 100x Speer .495" round ball for about $10 from Sportsways.
I has about 50 hollow points made up and has two boxes of round ball to go with it.

The rifle is in pretty tidy condition other than a couple of bruses on the rear of the hardwood stock.
Scope in the photos is no included but comes with a Hawke 3-9x50 AO mildot scope.
Bipod s not included.

Members Reviews / New Tuxing 4500psi compact compressor
« on: November 09, 2016, 05:12:46 PM »
After much deliberation I have bought a compressor to fill my PCPs and pony bottles.
I was torn between spending decent money on a Bauer JNR or just take a risk on a cheep Chinese job.
The new Altaros booster looked great but it still relies on a regular work shop compressor to operate which would mean I would have to spend more money upgrading my current workshop cheapo or it would soon let me down.

So after searching many cheap Chinese compressors I found this one that is very well priced and fairly new to the market.

Size   L 35cm x W 18cm x H 34cm
Net Weight 17KG
Power 220V-240V 50HZ  or  100-130V 60HZ
Motor Power   1.8 KW  Pressure :300bar/4500psi
Inflating speed 2800r/min

Fill an empty 500cc bottle to 300bar in about 5 minutes and direct airgun cylinders topped up from 120bar to 300bar in 2 mins

It boasts a new design water jacket for better cooling than the open tube tube compressors and seems to have some really great reviews so far.
Buyer reviews here:

I had no real need to fill 12ltr dive bottles with a compressor (which Im sure this one will do) so a lightweight will suit my needs.
It will be mainly used to direct fill my PCPs, top up my 500cc backpack bottle from 180 to 300bar and top up my 3ltr pony bottle from 180bar to 240bar.
Between them all I have more than enough air for an outing.
I had some reserves about build quality but it is a very simple unit and I had the seller pack in enough piston seals, O rings and plastic seats to rebuild the thing ten times over for a very reasonable $7 extra.
The Seller was extremely helpful and seems to know his product with full back up service parts available.
Fuxing my Tuxing looks to be very simple and it lends itself to loads of upgrades such as a larger oil/air separator.
I just received a litre of high quality Special Bauer full synthetic breathing air compressor oil which cost me a crazy $70 but there is enough for 4 services. (1000 hour intervals)

The unit arrived in New Zealand from China via TNT in a very speedy 4 days! Currently being held in customs but I hope to see it any day now.
Ill add to my review as I spend some time using it.

My expectations are realistic with any Chinese purchase but the price seemed right on this one.. It is really not much more than a motorised 2 stage hand pump and keeping that in mind the price is very reasonable.
I will be using it for very short intervals not hours on end like the shoe box compressor etc require so wear and tear should be a lot less.

For Sale, Wanted, Spotted / .308 Big bore rifle.
« on: July 11, 2016, 10:40:18 AM »
Up for grabs is a Samyang 909 bigbore PCP fitted with a new .30 cal Lothar Walther barrel
The rifle is like new with very little use other than some testing. The twist rate is 1-17.5 so suited to 44-120gr pellets/cast bullets and it seems to shoot the JSB 44 and 50gr pellets well around 900-950fps.
the 360cc air cyl gives you plenty of usable shots and the hammer has two cocking stages for high or low powered shooting.
With the right bullets this .308 has enough energy to knock over goats pigs and deer but would be heaps of fun on rabbits and possums with the Jsb pellets too.

Ill throw in whatever .308 bullets I have laying around and the foster filling probe.
Scope not included.

$650 or trade

The first reports of accuracy are terrible as they are un regged and have a shocking shot curve but they probably still have the horrible over sized barrels that wont shoot any pellets/bullets off the shelf.
Interesting design and good power though.
