I'm sorry to see you go and always enjoyed reading your posts, although I fully understand your reasonin. I'm a member of quite a few forums (my hobby seems to be collecting hobbies!) and they are all going the same way. I think Facebook has made it so easy to keep all the groups in one place that forums are just dying. Tapatalk made an effort to do the same thing with forums but they are slowly dropping off (as this one did). I think that many more people these days are accessing via a phone or tablet, rather than a PC, but most forums are not made to suit this limited screen size.

The NZ Airgunners Group on Facebook is very active, including with some of the key players from here. I think one of the reasons is because it's so easy to add photos. Something that is not so easy with forums, especially if you're a member of many, that all work differently.

I think your posts are always well received even if people don't respond. Some are too shy and some just don't have anything to add. As someone else has said, your .25 project was something that many of us were looking forward to read and I really hope that you post about it somewhere. You will be missed. Farewell.

General Discussion / Re: ft nats etc
« on: October 29, 2018, 01:20:45 AM »
I gave up FT in 1987 due to the rich folk effectively 'buying' the prizes. We went from a level playing field where an HW77 could compete on equal terms with an Air Arms Shamal (unregulated pcp), to guys buying high powered scopes and using the focus ring to measure the range. I suggested at the time that they could save everyone a lot of money and level the field again by just marking the range of every target. I was told it would spoil the challenge. What challenge when you scope focus ring tells you the range to the nearest metre, providing you could afford such a scope. Look where it is now with butt hooks, big wheels on the side of scopes, regulators, etc.

I'm happy now just to plink and keep my paddock clear of bunnies :-)

« on: October 21, 2018, 09:20:57 PM »
That's really good shot to shot consistency and I see the 13fpe as a bonus. My 2250 is 10.50fpe with nothing changed except fitting a LH breach, 24" barrel and your  carbon over-the-barrel suppressor. Next strip I'll work on the valve, polish the trigger and fit a stronger hammer spring. No need for any power adjustment as I'm happy to run full power always as I only shoot bunnies in my own paddock and prefer to learn the rifle characteristics.

My LH Hammerli 850 with custom walnut stock is still my favourite rifle, but the 2250 has grown on me as it's so easy and quick to handle. Dvlneme has a good idea about extending the cylinder to ssomehow fit more gas. I have an adapter for my 850 that takes 2 x 12g cartridges instead of the 80g cartridge. I'll have a look to see if that's a possibility. Although I think the 2250 is self piercing on the first shot, so won't be able to keep the gas valve open.

Automatic or semi-automatic? Big difference and I can't find the article online to read.

Try using it with both eyes open rather than looking through it. This is how they are intended to be used and so give a full field of view.

Nice looking gun. I do like the  way the Japanese engineer airguns. I bought a Sharp Innova as soon as they came out and had John Bowkett modify the valve. Followed that with a Sharp Ace that had many years of successful FT action and I still have it. I bought one of the copy Innovas but the don't shoot anywhere near as well as the original. I need to look out for a Howa now.

I've got a Cannon Innova copy in 177 and an Ace 22 with a John Bowkett valve that I used to use in field target back in the 80's. Between myself and the original owner, Carl Robinson, it's won plenty of trophies. The pump arm wore out but I got a replacement 20 years ago. Just haven't gotten around to drilling for the pin to hold the handle on. Need to first find the correct taper reamer without paying silly money.

Here's one from me to start!

Product name/description: Scope level, for 30mm tubes (25mm also available)

The good: Cheap, do their job! I ordered a bunch and they were snapped up quickly by club members. Nice and slim so don't take up too much space on the scope.

The bad: Nothing really. One of them had a loose level, which was easily fixed.

Recommend? Yes

I bought some that go directly onto the scope rail so no doubt whether the rifle is level or not.

This is exactly the reason that I won't get an FAL. I wouldn't be able to resist that because my inner demon is whispering "buy it buy it buy it".
