Importing an air gun
« on: April 29, 2016, 02:14:51 PM »
Hi all,

My apologies for not finding this information elsewhere, but is there a document or explanation somewhere of what the deal is in regards to importing an airgun? be it a springer, IGT, multi-pump or PCP airgun (not pistol)? I have a FAL.

Cheers

You will need full details of product & supplier.

Initially Contact:
1) NZ Customs Head Office in Wellington

2)Wellington Arms Office cnr. Victoria & Stout St.

Been there done that. You may forfeit any warranty if you import privately.

Do your homework diligently. You will be stung for every conceivable dollar at every point. Sending a custom built PCP back to the States for example, can be very expensive (@$500) & time consuming......but you can claim back the original GST content on the purchase & import freight.

Exportation a PCP out of NZ required removal of the air bottle from the rifle & disassembly of the bottle valve to visually confirm there was no pressurisation.

International Freight Forwarding specialists like Pengelley's, saved my bacon.

Good luck, my experience was a time consuming & financial nightmare.
