Scope cam test 1
« on: November 12, 2016, 01:08:32 AM »
Kia Ora Koutou,

Playing around with my action camera. One of the mounts I have looked like it would place the cam in almost the right position to get footage through the scope. It attaches to my skeleton stock with a U bolt with no modification needed. Video has been cropped.

I might have a tutu and see if I can get it positioned a bit better. If it works I might swap out the lens in the camera for one with a narrower field of view.

It would be hard to aim through the small screen on the camera though so I won't be sending pellets into critters eyes or anything. There is a wifi function on the camera that I could use to watch the footage on my phone but then I would have to deal with lag.

Pulled out all my mounts from various action cameras I have had and was able to get the camera positioned in the right place. The wide angle and the tiny screen make it really hard to see where I am aiming but it was a good test. I first tried swapping out the lens for a narrower FOV lens but the IR Filter is on the original lens and there is no filter on the replacement one (night hunting???).

I was also using a heavier pellet (Cometa Exact Jumbo Heavy) than what I had the scope zeroed for (Air Arms Diablo Field).

I'll have to keep playing around.

Third proof of concept scopecam. This gives me a "better view of what I am aiming at but I am unable to record the footage and even if I could it is low quality image with poor framerate.

I am using the FPV gear from my drone. I think a better way would be to use the video out function on my GoPro. That way I can record high quality footage and see what I am aiming at. We'll see.
