G day!

Mintie is our resident crosman a holic. He will point you in the right direction. Steel breech is a first good mod.

Hmmm stray dogs would not be a good target for one of these, they are not powerful enough to kill it but will cause an injury penetrating the skin and could poison with the lead which is not good. If they are wild dogs and on your property attacking stock then you need something like a 223 centrefire to kill them properly. If they are stray pet dogs and you just want to give them a scare then use an airsoft rifle which might hurt them but not cause an injury.

For tuning the 2250 you can get some more power out of them with a bit of light engineering but like Pauly mentioned the place to start is the steel breech. From the factory a 2250 produces around 9fpe of energy (the same as 9 pounds worth of weight dropped from 1 foot of height), with the standard length barrel and some tuning you can get that up to 12fpe max which will also mean your shot count per co2 cylinder reduces to 7-10 shots. With a longer barrel you can get this up to around 16-18fpe which is about what you get from the magnum spring air rifles on the market now. They are a great light weight little rifle and personally I like to leave the short barrel on them as the longer barrels make them feel a bit long and thin, 12fpe is enough for head shooting rabbits at up to 30m.

The mods have been discussed in length all over the Internet but the basic idea is to polish the hammer, increase the diameter of the transfer port, increase the hammer spring tension and open the valve up for more volume and better flow.
Lots of airguns

As above, do not shoot at dogs with an air gun. Ever.

Find someone with the right gear to do the job for you, or call animal control...

But yes, the 2250 is fun to mod anyway.
