Dive Tanks. Failures
« on: January 20, 2019, 10:22:35 PM »
Just discovered this
https://worksafe.govt.nz/about-us/news-and-media/cylinder-design-approvals-withdrawn/
i recommend checking your tank if you have a PCP or 2, unfortunately (or fortunately) mine is on the list (CIG (Luxfer Gas Cylinders Ltd)    Jan 1975 Ė Dec 1990    Australia AS 1777 AB 139) so i've emptied it and will need a new one...

I have had two tanks condemned. Fortunately, they weren't my main ones and came as a deal with guns. still have a steel one.
Makes you look at the small compressors that are coming out now. If they are reliable for filling guns only, not tanks, I reckon they could be worth looking at.

I reckon the way to go now is one of the small compressors to direct fill the rifle and a 500cc CF tank that you can take with you out in a backpack for top ups in the field. I have the 500cc tank all setup now but need to get a compressor one day.

What sort of money are you looking at for a compressor?

I agree with you Mintie. Plus means you can get that top up to the max pressure too, and get that bit more from your reg.

Anyone converted an old fridge / refrigerant compressor to an HP / silent shop compressor? Not sure what PSI they're good for...

While in Placemakers the other day I came across this https://www.airbowsystems.com which is the same compressor as wingman had but with what appears to be a very good filter system.
I have one of those compressors which has only done 1 hours running, the reason is I also purchased a 1lt 300 bar cylinder, filled the cylinder drained it and looked inside the cylinder and didnít like the amount of moisture that was inside it, even with the filters and an extra one that came with it.
I have kept the compressor because I like the idea especially with some of the air guns coming out with 480cc air cylinders and the large shot count this would give you.
I believe they will sell the compressors without a nail gun but not the filter system.

The compressors are available at PlaceMakers stores nationwide. The RRP is $999.00 incl GST and a small video of the compressor at https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=27&v=H8WYs17Qahc

I rung Placemakers here out of interest, and they offered me a trade discount, with the final price of $949.50 inc gst.

This includes moisture and particulate filters. There's one on the floor at Kaiwharawhara Wellington, so might go have a look at it next week. I got the impression they are very keen to sell them.
