Qb 79 plinking
« on: April 19, 2013, 10:31:30 AM »
I purchased a qb 79 off Trade Me April last year after my 7th operation and was amazed in what I received . I normally hunting Reds and fellow deer with the odd goat to throw on the bbq but haven't been able to do so for the last four years so I thought i'd get back into air gunning just too keep my eye in . :)
First pic is the group I shot with the Qb straight out of the box topped with a Leapers 3X9 scope at 15 meters .2nd pic Jan this year - valve mod and trigger work done - home made silencer using 2 liter milk tops as baffles at 20 meter .

How are you getting on with this?   I see in the pic it's still on co2, what kind of power are you getting with your valve mods?

Thanks Minte its still running on Co2 and 10.4gr pellets doing 665 f/s for around 10.2 foot pounds of energy . I had to detune the valve by putting an extra washer in to put more tension on the valve stem . Im getting over 600 shots out of the 9oz bottle .

What was the valve mod you did? I have the same  gun for my grandson & the groupings make it seem like a good mod to make

This one was a excellent mod but would have been better if my gun was .22 or .25 cal and not .177 because Co2 gas has to expand to do its job and in a confined internal space in the .177 it doesn't expand fast enough - thats why i presume the Co2 guns shoot so poorly on cold days and hpa expands alot quicker hence they shoot alot better and are not affected by temp as much as Co2.
Pic 001 valve mod - Pic 005 & 006 Transfer port mod involves brass tube and silicone fuel tube . :)

What's the heaviest pellet you have run through it? I found my bulk filled valve modded 2250 really performed better with the heaviest pellet possible.

Hi mintie - 10.3grn Jsb heavy's and Edgun 10.4grn seem to be the best pellet in the Qb -Ive tried the H&N 11.5gr Silver points and they shot worse than the Jsb 8.4grn and Edgun pellets shoot 5-8 f/s faster than the Jsb's heavy's.
