Best groups -Zoraki open sights
« on: January 03, 2014, 05:43:58 PM »
So i've been playing with my Zoraki pistol over the break and was curious what sort of groups to expect from it at various distances, 10m out to about 25 - 30m or more maybe.
I haven't got any pics yet but would be interested to see results from other pistols of similar capabilities. The possums, bunnys and birds on pistol challenge show the capabilities of pistols, but groups groups help show consistancy I guess. I have only fired about 100 shots throught it so hopefully it's breaking in a bit now and settling down, but plan to sit down and punch some paper soon,   Have to allow for approx 6m of windage  in Wellington today  ;D  so I will have to wait.

Interestingly I am right handed and use right eye on rifle but find left eye on open sights much more accurate.

Had a chance to have a quick session. 12 metres 5 shots, through the ute Window at a piece of wood, edgun 16 grain. About 50 mm group. Using  open sights.

Perhaps lighten the trigger a little with the tool provided just don't go over board with the adjustment as twice I've taken it to far and adjusted it right out to like a Hair Trigger which was to light and in both case the Zoraki failed and had to be sent back although replaced by Youngs Airguns under warranty.
The Zoraki at that range is capable of all pellets touching. If you have good techinque then try other pellets also, mine liked Webley Accupells 14.3gr, Jsb 14.3gr I can't remember the other results I'll have to read what I've recorded about my Zoraki advernture.
I know it can group tighter than that at 20m from Offhand, keep practicing you'll only ever get better and don't get frustrated as it's considerably more difficult to shoot an air pistol accurately compared to an air rifle.
You're on a new journey now, air pistols is an addiction on it's own.

Yeah, I'm still trying to master the sights. I will try the trigger but had read your post so didn't want to adjust it too much. Pistols are another thing compared to the rifle I agree and yes addictive. Thanks for the advice.

I have respect for those that hunt with open sights. I seem to have trouble getting groups any tighter than this. 5 shots at 25 m. Edgun 18 gn seem to be the best pellet out of what I have.
On the positive side I like the wack sound you get with the .22 . I like firing this pistol.

A gift on it's way to help tighten those groups.

Got the sights today, so put them  on the pistol tonight and took a couple of very quick shots at about 10 metres. All three shots grouped much tighter than before. They were all within about 12 mm without even sighting in the sights. Looking forward to having a session. Thanks for fixing me up Vault. :):)

Hi Pauly5 and Vault .

What mod did you do to the Zoraki sights.

Have a Zoraki .22 and use Crosman 14.3 grain with 2 pumps most of the time and my groupings are not very good

Thanks

Hk

Didn't do any mods to the actual gun, other than put on a red dot sight. So far def better.
When I first got the gun I was only pumping it twice, but now always do three. Ron from Youngs advised always pumping three times as they are designed to run like that, so that could make a difference in accuracy. I have some Edgun 18 gn pellets that seem the best out of what I have. They feel good to fire.
